Kasba college horror deepens: Another survivor alleges assault, strip torture, acid threat by main accused

Fresh allegations have surfaced in the ongoing Kolkata Law College case, with a second survivor stepping forward to accuse the main accused of sexual assault and violent harassment. The complainant stated that she was a first-year student in 2023 when the incident took place during a college picnic at a lodge in Budge Budge. According to her statement, she was forcibly confined in a room for about 40 minutes, where loudspeakers were used while the accused allegedly attempted to sexually assault her.

The survivor claimed that the accused pulled at her jeans and tried to establish physical relations. “He came into the room, opened his shirt, walked toward me, slapped me and tortured me,” she said. She further alleged that when she refused to comply, the accused stripped her, beat her, hit her on her private parts, and she lost consciousness. She said she managed to escape but remained silent out of fear.

According to the survivor, the accused also made verbal threats during the incident, warning her of an acid attack and threatening to kill her parents. She claimed he proposed marriage, saying, “I’ll treat you like a queen and marry you. I’ve liked you since your admission.” The survivor added that he told her he had 10 bighas of land in Kalighat and insisted he could be with her even after ending a seven-year relationship with someone else.

The woman said she attempted to file a complaint the next day but was warned by others in the college. “When I told him at college that I would file a GD, several people cautioned me. They said he was very influential,” she claimed. The survivor also alleged that between 2012 and 2023, multiple complaints had been made against the accused, but those who complained reportedly received phone calls from the Governing Body Chairman Ashok Deb.

In response to the allegations, MLA Ashok Deb said, “I knew him. Nothing more than that. Many people come to me. There are two types of acquaintances — one is someone I know casually, the other is someone I know very well. I knew him casually.” Police have reportedly informed the court that the accused is highly influential, and names such as “Jethu” have also come up during the investigation.
